An evening of Sufi qawwali at the studio compound of the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect B.V. Doshi — a setting that makes every other concert venue in Ahmedabad feel slightly inadequate. 80 seats, no standing room, no exceptions. Worth every effort to get a ticket.
The Sangath studio was Doshi's personal workspace and experimental architecture laboratory. The vaulted concrete forms create acoustics that suit the human voice in a way no purpose-built concert hall achieves. The qawwali tradition demands intimacy and Sangath delivers it.
Tickets (₹600) sell through the studio website and sell out within 24 hours of going on sale. The guest musician for the May edition is Madan Gopal Singh. Doors open at 18:30; programme begins at 19:00.
