India's finest classical music festival, run entirely on merit and without corporate interference since 1980. Eight nights of Hindustani and Carnatic performances, beginning at 6pm and running until well after midnight. The audience is extraordinary — people who know the music and stay for all of it.
Saptak was founded by sitarist Part Hariprasad Chaurasia, Hariprasad Chaurasia — actually it was founded by a group of musicians who wanted to give Ahmedabad the classical music festival it deserved. Over forty-five years, it has grown into an event that every serious musician in India wants to play.
Tickets (₹800–2,500 per evening) go on sale in October. The premium seats near the stage sell out in hours. General admission is available at the door and is entirely adequate — the acoustics at Tagore Hall are excellent from anywhere in the room.
